But those texted words are awfully heavy, aren't they? Her first thought is why her and her second is what was he thinking. Once again, Sephiroth's actions elude her.

[ Maya is right to tread carefully. Frühling has made little effort to show she's anything but cold or cruel-hearted. She's the opposite of Maya and a mirror to Sephiroth's unkindness. Understanding her that way, perhaps it's not so strange he's chosen her to be his replacement. Although she's loathe to befriend the rest of the club's staff, she has been an efficient co-manager the past few weeks. She is capable of ownership—she was an army commander before, even—but, still. Actually inheriting ownership is quite a shove.

Maybe the one thing the two women do actually share is their strong wills, their strength. Of different flavors, to be sure, but Maya's personality outright ensures this won't be the easy conversation she was expecting (or wasn't expecting, as is the case). She's bright, she's alert, she's an individual who often needs no one else's faith but her own, and she quickly lands on the heart of the matter, or so she supposes.]

I haven't been informed. I haven't been an employee of Masamune in weeks, and we don't necessarily talk business when we're together.

You're right to be concerned about keeping it. The city won't allow you to run it if you haven't been integrating well, [Ha...] they're going to shut you down the first they hear word of it. It makes me wonder what his plan was, because Sephiroth should know the levels just as well as I do.

More to the point, we have a couple things to straighten out. Campanella Frühling, I'm not signing a sheet of paper just so I can be owner in name only. If I sign it, I'm being owner in reality, too.

Maya isn't making Frühling feel any better with her non-immediate cooperation—not that Maya is expected to make her feel any better—but whatever. She tries not to react but to respond. (Should probably drink some more... water.) ]

Maybe that's the reason why he chose me instead of you [ - I had lasting dedication. You left. - ] but regardless of that, he still gave me your name. He told me to reach out to you because you'll help keep his legacy here alive.

Somehow it feels like Maya refuses to believe Sephiroth found any value in Frühling, like Maya wants to take all of it for herself. Frühling may seem narrow-minded but she isn't blind like that. It pisses her off, to feel devalued. Maya doesn't realize she's rubbing salt into a gaping wound as much as Frühling is loathe to apologize for anything she's done. (Blame Giovanni for using Maya as a shield.)

Frühling is gritting her teeth but she holds back on the incendiary comments. She has to win this. No other outcome is acceptable. ]

Is there any other way it can be?

[It's not that value assignments are so important to her. It's that she just doesn't know.

That question can be answered in more than a few ways, and not all of them pleasant to Frühling's ears, most likely. She doesn't know so many things. This is confusing, and didn't he realize he would be demanding so much out of a woman who's already driven, with her own career and aspirations here?

Finally, Maya shakes her head to herself.]

It doesn't matter. I'll do it. I'll sign the papers. He's important to me.

[ Forget everything she doesn't know, everything they don't know. Frühling just wants to get this over with, to attain one accomplishment and feel better about herself. Even if it doesn't seem like she cares, Frühling cares a whole lot.

It's certainly not the most comfortable of associations, but few things give Frühling comfort.

Good. We can take care of this at Masamune. The sooner the better. Let me know when you can set aside the time to come by. I imagine you have things to rearrange first before signing this contract.
